As a result, the Company has established a depth of technical expertise allied to an impressive product range of combat proven missile systems. This range has been developed to meet the potential challenges that the 21st century conflict scenario might present, from close-range combat to long-range deep strike. This experience has also given the Company a thorough understanding of evolving future customer requirements.
GROUND BASED AIR DEFENSE
MBDA is a proven Prime Contractor and Systems Integrator of complex missile-based weapon systems for Ground Based Air Defense and is focusing its efforts on developing its command and control and systems integration components to provide enhanced weapon effects. Our portfolio of deployable low level air defense systems provides a solid foundation to move towards a next generation, pan-European capability, with an emphasis on increasing commonality across the ground, maritime and air operational domans.
BATTLEFIELD ENGAGEMENT
The requirements of modern warfare have brought about a re-evaluation of traditional close and deep battle doctrines for Battlefield Engagement.
Armed forces on the move need to be equipped with portable or highly mobile, easy to use systems that are effective at short and medium ranges against what has become a very diverse target set.
Recent operations have shown that these systems need to be both offensive and defensive. They should be capable of providing offensive fire support to neutralize targets, ranging from snipers operating from buildings, to trucks and bunkers as well as carrying out the traditional defensive anti-armor role.
TiGER™ - TACTICAL GRENADE EXTENDED RANGE
TiGER™ is a small, man-portable, hand-launched, extended-range weapon designed for a rapid response employment to protect deployed troops.
TiGER™ is a candidate for the U.S. military's LMAMS (Lethal Miniature Aerial Munition System) program.
The Medium Extended Air Defense System (MEADS) is being developed by MEADS International to fulfill international common operational requirements and to provide system capabilities not met by current air and missile defense systems. MEADS International is a multi-national Joint Venture headquartered in Orlando, Florida. MEADS partners are Lockheed Martin in the U.S. and MBDA in Germany and Italy.
MEADS incorporates the advanced PAC-3 MSE missile, surveillance and fire control sensors, battle management/communication centers and high firepower launchers. It combines superior battlefield protection with unprecedented flexibility that allows it to protect maneuver forces and to provide homeland defense. MEADS provides 360 degree defensive coverage, a unique capability only offered by the MEADS International team.
Ramjet and Propulsion Technology from MBDA Germany
MBDA Germany (MBDA GE, LFK Bayern-Chemie) produces world-leading propulsion systems, including the solid fuel throttle-able ducted rocket ramjet for the METEOR air-to-air missile. MBDA GE also produces solid rocket motors, solid fuel gas generators, and rocket motors with gelled propellants for numerous air vehicles in the MBDA portfolio. Based on over 60 years of production experience, Bayern-Chemie produces propulsion systems in state-of-the-art facilities with a skilled and experienced workforce. Systems include control algorithms, air intakes, external and internal aerodynamics design, retractable inlets, ram combustors, combustion modeling, heat shields, port covers, ramjet nozzles, ramjet nozzles, gas generators, solid-boron propellants, gas generator control and booster production.
The propulsion for the METEOR missile is a throttleable ducted rocket/ramjet with a high energy boron filled gas generator and nozzleless booster. It is designed to provide standoff capability, high speed (Mach 3+), and an extremely large "no escape zone". MBDA GE has also produced a hypersonic motor that has demonstrated speeds in excess of Mach 7. Additionally, the company has also successfully produced a double-pulse motor, gel-propulsion, insensitive munitions that are full IM compliant and gas generators with low temperatures and long burn times.
